Samsung Exynos 2200 vs MediaTek Dimensity 9000, Apple A15 and Snapdragon 8 Gen: Is it the worst?
The Exynos 2200 was supposed to launch on 11th January but got delayed for unknown reasons. It's now expected to see a possible reveal of the Exynos 2200 at the Galaxy Unpacked event next month in February 2022, however many internet leakers are saying we still won't see it even in the Galaxy Unpacked event as Samsung will launch the snapdragon variant of Exynos 2200 in the US, Korea and Europe, but this news is not official.
So as of now, it is being expected that Samsung will reveal the Exynos 2200 with Galaxy S22 at Galaxy Unpacked event and it will be held on February 8, 2022.
The Exynos 2200 has been already benchmarked on GeekBench for quite some time now and also appeared on GFXBench so we have a rough idea about how well it performs in front of its competition. A trusted leaker Ice Universe who frequently comments about Samsung revealed the CPU configuration of the upcoming Exynos 2200.
As per the leaked specs, it will feature 3 CPU clusters with a 1 + 3 + 4 configuration, where the prime core is the Cortex-X2 core clocked at 2.9 GHz with three cores clocked at 2.8GHz and four cores operating at 2.2GHz and info about the second the third clusters is yet to be revealed. Making no guess, let's talk about the graphics.
The Exynos 2200 will feature custom made AMD RDNA 2 Based graphics clocked at 1250 MHz. This configuration will be exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and configurations for S22 and S22 + are believed to get different configurations.
The chipset scored 170.7 fps in Manhattan, 121.4 fps and 51.5 fps in Aztec normal and high. In Geekbench, Exynos 2200 got 1073 points in single-core performance and registered a multi-core score of 3389 points.
Ice Universe Deleted Exynos 2200 Tweet, Via Reddit - u/kfthebest97) |
However, the story has a plot twist. The same tipster who Ice Universe who leaked the specifications, tweeted several times claiming the Exynos 2200 is "Far Behind" both Qualcomm and Apple SoCs. The first tweet was focused on the failure of custom AMD iGPU in an unnamed test against its rivals that features the Samsung galaxy s22 smartphone.
It failed to defeat the Mali-G710 MP10 in MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 and even Apple’s A15 SoC or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s Adreno 730 GPU. However, no figures or data were provided and all these tweets were also deleted very soon but not very soon to go unseen. It's possible the tipster got some wrong information, or there's been a mistake in analysing the (not yet) seen data about the Exynos 2200 so it would be nicer to not decide whether it is the best or "worst" as Ice Universe claimed in one of the deleted tweets.
So it's now more of suspense until the Galaxy Unpacked event answers (or maybe not) our questions. It's going to be held on February 8th next month. So Stay tuned!
